چکیده

A CRITICAL CHECKLIST of the 54 species of ahermatypic Scleractinia known from the Hawaiian Islands is given. Based on a collection of approximately 1,150 specimens from 186 stations, new records are documented for 42 of these species, including 19 new records for the Hawaiian Islands, 8 of these being new species. A synonymy, discussion, and distribution are given for each of the 42 species collected; those species new to the Hawaiian Islands are illustrated. This new checidist of species shows the Hawaiian deep-water Scleractinia to be an attenuated Indo-West Pacific fauna having a 48% endemic component, a 17% centralwest Pacific component, a 15% Indo-West Pacific component, and a 17% cosmopolitan component. Deep-water Scleractinia from two stations from Christmas Island (in the Line Islands) and one station off Johnston Atoll are also reported.

Distribution and Abundance of the Corals around Hengam and Farurgan Islands, the Persian Gulf

The percentage cover and distribution of scleractinian corals were studied at two Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf. Survey techniques involved the use of 20-m line transects placed at 4-9 m depth interval, parallel to the shore. GIS based maps were employed to show the distribution of hard corals. In Farurgan Island, hard coral cover was concentrated in the west and north-west of the island,...

Megafaunal composition of cold-water corals and other deep-sea benthos in the southern Emperor Seamounts area, North Pacific Ocean

There are no reports, however, concerning the taxonomic composition of cold-water corals and other benthic megafauna in the southern Emperor Seamounts area of the North Pacific Ocean. We analyzed benthic samples collected from a research vessel durin...

The Kuwait fauna is a small subset of the over 500 Indo-Pacific species. Several species show a higher degree of intraspeci...
